Rome News Tribune published an article that gives a great overview of CRBI’s plans for a multi-year study to determine the extent of PFAS contamination in Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama.

While it is clear that many of the waterways in our watershed are contaminated by PFAS chemicals from upstream manufacturers, the extent of the contamination is yet to be verified. We will be collaborating with Coosa Riverkeeper in Alabama to test sites and Cyclopure, a company in California to test for the chemical.

Earlier this month the EPA announced the proposed National Primary Drinking Water Regulation (NPDWR) for six PFAS chemicals setting maximum contaminant levels for the chemicals at Zero or near Zero levels. These regulations are expected to be finalized by the end of 2023. EPA said that it expects that if implemented the rule will prevent thousands of deaths and reduce tens of thousands of serious PFAS-attributable illnesses.
